Coconut oil hair treatment
Coconut oil has long been used for nourishing and protecting the skin and hair.
There is much information out there on coconut oil and its benefits for topical applications and nutritional value. For many years coconut oil was a common ingredient in cooking because it is a stable saturated fat.
Coconut does not breakdown or turn rancid so therefore makes an excellent base for use in Aromatherapy skin products.
Coconut oil protects and nourishes skin and hair ~ Indonesians and people from the Islands have long used coconut oil to protect their hair and skin from the sun and salt water. They would infuse ylang ylang flowers in coconut oil and apply to their hair and skin to protect and nourish. This pomade` was known as ‘Bori Bori’
Because of coconut oils cooling action it is now recommended as a skin application for menopausal hot flushes. I have also used and recommended it for sunburn as it aids in cooling the skin and preventing blistering and peeling.
Coconut oil is anti-inflammatory, vulnerary (wound healing), aids in reducing bacterial and viral infections.
I love coconut oil as a skin application for dry and sensitive skin conditions, especially in winter which is when our skin becomes dry or sun damaged. One of the best times to hydrate and nourish your skin is after a bath or shower. Leave your skin damp and then apply coconut oil over your whole body. Your skin will be left feeling soft and silky. Of course you may add essentials for that extra boost.
Dry cracked lips, eczema, dry cracked heals and elbows, psoriasis are condition’s in which coconut oil will benefit greatly by softening and improving the integrity of our skin. Coconut oil forms a protective layer on your skin and absorbs easily without that greasy coating that many other vegetable oils leave.
Exfoliating recipe ~
~ ¼ cup coconut milk ~ ¼ cup coconut oil ~ ½ cup brown sugar
This needs to be done in the shower, apply and rub vigorously over your body then rinse off.
Edible ~
Here is a tasty treat for using shredded coconut ~ especially fresh coconut.
One of my sisters makes this beautiful spicy eggplant chutney ~ I like to have it on water crackers with a dollop of organic yoghurt and sprinkle with freshly shredded or toasted coconut… yum!
You can also make smoothies and milkshakes with coconut milk.
My dear friend Michael Finnegan sent me this and I’m liking it!
