Essential oils can support you by helping you to focus on what you are doing, certain essential oils like Black Pepper strengthens your mind, Lemon assists with clarity and of course when you inhale the smell of an aroma that you like it will instantly uplift your emotions and put a smile on your face, either energising you or relaxing you.
Often when you have a lot fo things going on in your life the simplest of things can become difficult to do. You can use essential oils to support yourself in achieving your daily tasks with ease and grace.
Inhalations are one of the best ways to use essential oils for an immediate effect and can be carried with you at all times. Having a bath gives us time to relax and or re-energise. Set yourself time out even if it is fifteen minutes a day to simply be.
Use your essential oils to assist with grounding and connecting, do some slow gentle deep breathing. Having a foot bath is yet another simple way of giving yourself time out.
Room sprays have to be one of my favourite ways of using essential oils. You can carry them with you and spray when ever you feel you need a boost or top up.
A few essential oils to help you on your way ~
Black Pepper is a very strengthening oil to your mind and body

Emotion of the week ~ Fear of letting go ~ A challenge for many and I personally have experienced this emotion in different areas of my life, throughout my life. I am about to embark on a new journey and there is a spark of warm light growing inside of me. I have let go and released a part of my personal life and as hard and sad as it is, I truly know it is for the best.
When you release and let go of that which is not conducive to you personally or in business an immediate shift in energy occurs and you will find everything opens up and flows into your life with ease and abundance~
Essential oils for releasing fear~

Aromatherapy for Stress
When it comes to essential oils and stress relief, all are potentially beneficial through various methods of application. It is important to consider your smell preference as when we inhale an aroma that we love it will immediately have a positive effect on us. You may experience immediate relief from stress and tension, feel relaxed or energised, emotionally uplifted and calm. They will strengthen your immune system which is often depleted when one is stressed.
Some symptoms of stress can be feeling agitated and annoyed at the simplest or smallest of things. Some may feel teary, angry or impatient. Other symptoms can be broken sleep or feeling tired all the time.
There are many causes of stress – financial or relationship problems, family, work, pressure from many different sources. Here I offer some recommendations, keep in mind that there are some very common essential oils that are used by Aromatherapists and that each individual may respond differently.
Essential oils to reduce stress:
Bergamot, Black Pepper, Cardamom, Chamomiles, Cedarwood, Clary sage, Cypress, Eucalyptus lemon, Frankincense, Geranium, Ginger, Grapefruit, Jasmine, Juniper, Lavender, Lemon, Lemon myrtle, Mandarin, Neroli, Orange sweet, Patchouli, Peppermint, Rose, Rosemary, Rosewood, Sandalwood, Tea tree lemon, Violet leaf, Ylang Ylang.
I personally recommend and find direct inhalations and/or baths the fastest and most effective way of treating stress, anxiety, tension and depression. Using an aromatherapy body spray is another very effective and pleasing application. Room sprays are another very useful way of using essential oils. Essential oil burners and diffusers can be used to enhance your moods, however the end result will not be as long lasting as using direct inhalations having a bath or using an aromatherapy body spray.
Here are some examples of blends to use for reducing stress and associated symptoms along with a suitable application method.
Bathing:
Frankincense, Rosewood and Lavender are calming and bring peace.
Neroli, Sandalwood and Clary Sage is a wonderful relaxing blend.
Bergamot, Vetiver and Sweet Orange is very calming and is uplifting to the emotions.
Geranium, Patchouli, Ylang Ylang is balancing and reduces stress and anxiety.
For a healthy adult use 6-10 drops in total. For pregnancy, children, the elderly or fragile people halve the amount of essential oil drops.
The amount of water has no relevance to the amount of essential oil drops used. When you are bathing you are actually receiving two pathways of absorbtion via the olfactory (our sense of smell) and integumentary (our skin) systems.
These can be done by placing a few drops of your desired essential/s oil on to a tissue or hankie inhaling as you need.
Using a disposable inhaler is a very efficient way of doing dry inhalations; otherwise steam inhalations can be used. Becareful with steam inhalations as some essential oils can irritate your mucous membranes.
Some essential oils I like to use
Cardamom, Lemon Myrtle, Sweet Orange and Peru balsam are emotionally invigorating, uplifting, happy oils promoting a sense of lightness of being.
Peppermint, Rose and Lemon, assist in calming a racing mind and assisting with clarity.
Bergamot, Mandarin and Grapefruit are uplifting to the emotions.
Sprays are fabulous and easy to use on a daily basis and you can carry them with you where ever you go.
I recommend you use a coloured or opaque glass bottle, 50-100ml and to carry with you 25-30ml is good.
Place purified water in the bottle, around half way, then you add your chosen essential oils. Some aromatherapists prefer to use a disper; however I don’t like to add anything but a floral or filtered water or a true hydrosol. Give the bottle a gentle shake before each use.
Suggested blends:
Geranium, Sweet Orange, Bergamot, Sandalwood
Lemon, Grapefruit, Cardamom, rosewood
Rose, Neroli, Champa, Cinnamon
30ml bottle 5-30 drops in total
50ml bottle 10-30 drops in total
100ml bottle 10-50 drops in total
I have given you a guideline in the amount of drops to use above, however it will depend on your personal sense of smell as to how many drops you use.
Enjoy as you bring a smile into your day!

Hi there, my name is Julie Nelson. I have been a practising Aromatherapist for over 15 years and lectured on Aromatherapy for 13years. I have worked with chronic lung disease with my daughter during that time and have had some very good results. It is important to re-iterate that when treating any condition the treatment is specific to the individual and I recommend you consult with a qualified practitioner before using any essential oils.
Red or Sweet Myrtle, German Chamomile, Melaleuca ericafolia, Mandarin were my most used oils on Amy from 5yr’s to 10 yr’s. In the practitoner’s guide to Aromatherapy red or wild Thyme and Peppermint combined are recommended for deep lung infections, I have used this combination with Ravensara, Lemon Myrtle and Eucalptus smithii.
Applications - topically applying the oils front and back of torso by gentle massage. These treatments were used as a complementary treatment along with orthodox medication. Never take anyone off medication without a doctor’s consent. My daughter would not be alive today if it were not for modern medicine and I am a strong supporter of both complimentary and orthodox medicines, each has its place.
My treatments varied with age and what she was presenting. Amy has a chronic and life threatening condition. She is a T.O.F = tracheoesophageal fistula. She was the youngest and smallest TOF baby born in 1988 here in Australia. Her associated condition is chronic lung disease, similar to CF however is not diagnosed as that.
She has had recurring lung infections and countless hospitalisations for chronic lung infections, pneumonia, bronchitis and also ‘fundoplication’ surgery for reflux which specialists believe may still occur and is one of the causes for her lung infections. Amy has also at the age of 13 had a posterior spinal fusion due to the original surgery for her TOF repair. Initially the surgical procedure was very invasive going in through the front rib cage area and through the back under her right shoulder blade. To do this they cut 2 of her ribs which fused together creating a major problem. This was common for TOF children back then. Today keyhole surgery is done. Amy’s right rib cage did not grow to the same capacity as her left, this caused curvature of her spine. As she grew she had a 22 degree curve in her spine, from the age of 12 to 13 her curvature went to 41 degrees as she had started puberty. She was becoming very uncomfortable, in pain and suffered headaches every day. This is why she chose to have the spinal infusion. Her back surgery was a success and more than they had expected and they were astounded at her recovery!
There is of course a huge history so will keep this short, I wanted you to have some history to understand. One of my goals is write a case study of it this year.
Myrtle, Mandarin and German Chamomile where my most used for her chronic wet lung condition. These oils were calming and supported her immune between the ages of 5-8yrs. These oils also helped with her digestive problems as well. She associated feeling better with these particular oils and would often ask for them when she was not feeling well. They were applied by hand and foot massages in her acute stage (once she was out of danger) and chest rubs thereafter. Chamomile was used frequently in bathing. The affect was very clear, especially combined with massage.
We always used and still do use Sweet or Red myrtle because of its calming properties as Eucalyptus globulus and radiata are too stimulating to the bronchi.
Thyme and Peppermint for pseudomonas infection in her lungs. This bacterium thrives and colonises in wet moist lung conditions and is common in CF and chronic lung patients.
Frankincense combined with German chamomile as an anti-inflammatory and Clary sage for slowing down the breath Neroli and Rose for emotional support for chronic anxiety and depression.
Sandalwood and Myrrh, Tea tree, Melaleuca ericafolia, Eucalyptus smithii, Ravensara, Manuka are other oils that have been integrated in to her treatments.
All of her treatments have been in conjunction with orthodox medicine and various another Natural remedies.
After posting this today I have decided to do a videozine on this subject. I have long wanted to write about it in depth, however find that a bit daunting, so I will be talking about our experiences. Keep you eyes open for my TOF videos.
